‘Make Visuals with a Commodore 64’
Workshop by Raquel Meyers
4th October 2014
kl 12:00 – 17:00
BEK – Bergen Center for Electronic Arts (Norway)
This workshop teaches you how to create your own graphics and animations in 8-bit aesthetics using text-mode graphics (letters, numbers and other symbols). The purpose of the workshop is to find new ways of expression in these unique media environments. Although often misunderstood as limiting and difficult, these tools are often quite helpful to develop new procedures, ideas and motivations. New ideas don’t require new technologies. Sometimes it’s even easier to be progressive with old tools. The process in the creation of content is a mixture between slöjd (handcraft based) and old technologies from the 1970s and 1980s, like the early home computers.
Techniques: text-mode graphics in modern and old computers like PETSCII (ASCII for the Commodore 64).
